Mountain Hardwear is launching its second edition of FreetheRide. For the second consecutive year, a mix of Freeride and mountaineering is promoted by this project. Starting September 1st, you can sign up to participate in the FreetheRide event. 25 lucky candidates will be invited to participate in the ski selection day that takes place in La Grave, France. Once the members of the team are chosen, the athletes will head out into the backcountry for a week of fun and adventure, exploring one of the many remote alpine regions in France. The location of the base camp is kept secret until the last minute! Check out the site www.freetheride.com or contact us direcctly at Peakpowder.

Sad news for the ski community...On August 6th, Fredrik Ericsson was killed on K2. His goal was to summit and ski the world's 3 highest peaks without oxygen. From the sources we have, it is at the height of the bottleneck (above 8000m) that he slipped and fell, while setting up a fixed rope. For further details on the specifics of the accident, you can check out www.everest.com or www.fredrikericsson.com. On our homepage, you can find the link to the first site by clicking on LINKS, then Divers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are close to Fredrik, both his family and friends. As for the other members of the expedition (Trey Cook in particular) that are still on the mountain, slowly making their way down to base camp, stay safe and take care.
