A few snowflakes fell in the village of Le Tour this morning. Temperatures have dropped considerably and it is finally starting to feel like winter is on its way. The colour contrasts are exquisite with the mountain slopes brushed in white, the glaciers shimmering in ice blue and hews of green and yellow are found in the forest of larches and birches. The Grands Montets is hoping to open its ski season on December 5th. For those of you who are impatient, take a look at the webcams on the CMB site - you know where to find the link! And remember to buy your ski pass early. Discounts are valid for purchases made before November 30th.

Here is the new version of Peakpowder...a new banner with a new vision! Starting in 2010, Peakpowder will specialize in skiing year-round, taking our ski trips to destinations beyond the equator. Summer in the Alps is just too long. To counter these "ski withdrawal" symptoms, we've come up with the perfect remedy: move hemispheres and discover great new ski lines, live crazy adventures and get ready for more surprises! Peakpowder will be the only IFMGA high mountain guide agency to specialize in skiing! Now wait, there's more news...starting November 1st, our office will move to Chamonix, 100m from the Montenvers train station. We had dropped a couple of hints over the summer, but now it's a done deal. The address is 251 avenue Cachat le Géant, and it's right on the main road as you drive into town! Our base camp will be open in the evenings for ski talk and debriefs, and will be a space in which ideas and information can be shared. Emily will continue to run her B&B in the same building, and from the end of March onwards, Poz Café will re-open its kitchen, serving yummy ski snacks and lunches. This is a new chapter in Peakpowder history, and we're excited! These changes will allow us to provide you with an even better level of service. We want your passion for skiing to be pure pleasure!

Do you recall the SKITRAB that Fred was testing most of last winter? The one called the "STELVIO LIGHT XL"? A super duper ski - yes, it is the lightest of its kind on the market, great skiability, fast, yes FAAAST and FUUURIOUS. Well, Backcountry Ski Magazine has ranked it on the top of its list in the 90mm category in its 2009/2010 ski test. There is some rough and tough competition out there, but it stands out on its own when compared to both European and North Americans brands. It has made its mark...and oui, c'est tres cool, isn't??? And of course, we at Peakpowder, are very stoaked...anxiously waiting for the ski season to start so we can get back on these rockets. Our heads are already filled with falling snowflakes!
