Snow 'n Rock
dimanche, 06 décembre 2009

Snow, and yes, lots of rocks! Keep your eyes open and your tips high, and don't be taken by surprise by a rock hiding just under the surface of the fresh powder. Luckily we know the terrain well and this luxury provided for an excellent day of  fresh powder on the Grand Montets ski area. The kick off of the season at the Grands Montets was massive...in all senses of the word!  Only part of the ski area was open.  The sun, the energy, the people, the powder snow...all these elements added together took everyone by surprise.  No one expected to see so many people on the mountain.  The season "gong" has gone off, and it's time to start riding.  Peakpowder normally organizes a special evening to kick-off the new skiing seson, but this year we've decided to host the event over the holiday season.  Awards will be handed out and members of the Gold Couloirs Club will be rewarded. See you soon.

It's snowing, it's not snowing, it's hot, it's cold...what's up?  Is the winter setting in or isn't, are the lifts opening up early or aren't they?  We're not stressed, but after having spent a couple of days skiing in Tignes, we're starting to get ancy.  The good thing is that the snow that is falling is sticking up high.  And this is great news for glacier conditions.  This sticky snow will help fill in the huge gaps and give us a little relief as we ski over some of the big crevasses that were formed during the summer months.  To keep you waiting for the season to start, here's a scoop.  Still with us?  Starting now, Peakpowder will officially sell the SkiTrab XL ski.  We have chosen this ski model because it is the best option for the type of skiing we offer.  There are no more excuses!  Now you can get kitted to tackle the slopes of this white planet!  Sooooo...are you ready to ski on what is considered to be #1 in Europe and North America?

Mountain Hardwear Ski Academy
dimanche, 08 novembre 2009

Here's the latest update...Mountain Hardwear has chosen Peakpowder as their technical partner to organize the logistics of the "Mountain Hardwear Winter Academy".  Wow!  What's this all about?  It's a new concept in Sports Makerting, with a direct partnership between MHW, "SKI Magazine" and the La Grave - La Meije ski area.  There will be a national selection of both men and women, in order to form a winter team.  The idea is to have this mixed team of skiers participate in a one week mountain ski camp, guided and organized by Peakpowder. There will be a base camp from which various ski descents will be tackled.  The highlights of this adventure will be documented by a photographer and filmed by a camera man (woman). Check out the pages of "Ski Magazine" for more information on how to become a member of the MHW Winter Academy team.  And of course, Peakpowder will keep you posted in its news section when the time comes.  Stay tuned if you're interested in  becomming a candidate.  Yes, the winter is looking good.  Lots of excitement and energy, adventures that have the same spirit as Peakpowder.  We like to climb and ski wherever  the slopes are white!  It's snowing.  Let's cross our fingers that the snow keeps coming our way...we may even get an early lift opening!
