A new way of discovering mountains around the world!

Peakpowder
is a IFMGA mountain guide agency located at the base of the Mont Blanc, in the Chamonix valley.  Founded in the fall of 2006 by Fred Bernard and Emily Lievens, Peakpowder is geared towards providing quality, professional instruction, excellent training and logistical support for all types of mountain activities.

Whether you call it powder skiing, freeride skiing, steep skiing, free skiing, off-piste skiing, heli freeride, backcountry skiing, couloir, travel, road trip, expedition, mountaineering, rock climbing, ski mountaineering, big mountain riding or skiing the steeps, we are doing it.  Whatever your level, whatever  your desires, we are here to help you improve.  Let's get the most out of the mountains!

Happy exploring on www.peakpowder.com.

Did anyone say "powder"?
vendredi, 14 novembre 2008

And, yes, we did hear the word - POWDER - much to our surprise we were able to put in a few freshies on the Swiss side of the border.  After spending hours sitting in a car, driving endless miles to check out a new region that Peakpowder wishes to promote, a leg stretch was a much needed affair.  What a sweet surprise to find 50 cm of fresh powdery snow.  At 2000m, the cumulated snow fall of about 1.5m has created a good, solid base. It's certainly not a bad way to jump start the season!  Now it's our legs that need to be worked into shape.  FYI the Aiguille du Midi and Pointe Helbronner are closed , reopening December 13th.

And as for our little roadtrip, the Peakpowder dream team was checking out lines in the Dolomites.  Couloirs galore...lots of lines to be invented and tracked...this is couloirs to cars territory - easy access and challenging steeps.  We detoured to say hello to our friends at Ski Trab and Garmont, and to check out what is hot off the press.  Thanks guys for the warm welcome! Check out the Dolomites trip details soon to be online.

Black & White
mercredi, 05 novembre 2008

Black and white - a black man in the White House, and dark skier faces, tanned by the scorching sun, ripping it up in white snow... this is what we have in common with the new US President!  Or perhaps, it is more appropriate to consider that we share the following points of view:  it is time for a change, for a new way of looking at ski and mountain guiding; time to share a passion, get people involved, committed and moving together for a common cause - skiing as part of a community.  Yes, this is what Peakpowder is about, and yes we can make it happen!  The time has come...Peakpowder certainly does not have the habit of expressing any favouritism for any particular political party or idealogy, however this historic moment seems unique, and we feel that it is important to openly express and share our happiness.  We are pleased that our visit to the Grand Tetons in Wyominng this Spring will be a trip, to an America that is more open-minded, and that has acknowledged its need for change.  The US dollar is on its way up, and in light of its gain, we are reserving our flights tickets early.  This move will keep prices interesting.  This particular road trip is targeted to those wanting to ski the steep couloirs in the Jackson area, and it's full on.  Space is limited, so get in touch quickly if you are interested.  For those of you, already in the US, our meeting point can be Jackson Hole.  Does anyone know why these mountains are called the "Grand Tetons"???  It seems that it is the coureurs des bois - of French origin - that nicknamed the mountains because they look like a great set of female breasts ....normally, it is women who see phallic symbols in pinnacles and sharp peaks....let's end this here!!!
