A beautiful day, blue skies, sunny and clear....and F.....freezing! The "Free the Ride" selection day took place in La Grave last Saturday. A good effort from the competitors...on the uphill skin everyone gave their all, and the downhill ski was definitely fun to watch. Difficult snow, but the skiers showed their ability to tackle all snow conditions with ease and fluidity. The jury found the selection tough, as the skiing level was fairly equal. The athletes that stood out and were selected are: Antoine LEMAITRE, Olivier BARON, David ROSENBARGER, Hugo HERICHER, Medhi BIDAULT, Jeremy AUDIBERT, Stéphanie CHURLET and Neile COMBARLIER. Kudos to the new "Free the Ride" team. We look forward to getting to know you all a little more during the backcountry week in the Ecrins. A big thank you goes out to all those who participated, and who took the time and energy to make it to La Gave for the tryouts. The countdown is on for the base camp departure....

A very exciting show during the Freeride in Chamonix! Former freestyle mogul skiers made it to the podium. Candide Thovex discovers new terrain - he's moving out of the parks and big airs, and into the backcountry to show off his prouesse. Watch out, as he is likely to cause havoc with his very fluid style, his agility and abiliity to express himself on the mountain. His is one very creative artists when it comes to leaving his tracks on the snow. Beautiful skiing with sytle, and it leaves us in awe...an inspiration for us to improve and explore our limits.

Yes, it is official, we have our first member of the TEAM COULOIRS D'OR! Let's just give you a quick reminder of how the game works: 5 big ski lines that are accessed by foot. This man has done: Mettrier Ridge, North East of the Courtes, North face of the Aiguille Martin, South face of the Chardonnet and multiple descents of the Grand Tetons range in Wyoming, USA. The prize for this is a Mountain Hardwear Gore-tex shell jacket with the team Peakpowder Couloirs d'Or logo. Congrats! And of course, others are not far off from joining the team...we'll be keeping you posted.

Mountain Hardwear is launching its second edition of FreetheRide. For the second consecutive year, a mix of Freeride and mountaineering is promoted by this project. Starting September 1st, you can sign up to participate in the FreetheRide event. 25 lucky candidates will be invited to participate in the ski selection day that takes place in La Grave, France. Once the members of the team are chosen, the athletes will head out into the backcountry for a week of fun and adventure, exploring one of the many remote alpine regions in France.
