Chloé...your passion caught up with you. In my wildest dreams, I couldn't have guessed that you would die in a climbing accident on such a beautiful mountain, the Noire de Peuterey. I too was in the mountains, just next to you, and looking up longingly at your silhouettes moving along the South ridge. Little did I know that this was you...your bodies moving along quickly and efficiently on this dorsal line cut into the sky. I was envious, thinking that one day, I would like to tackle this climb. And, as it happens in the mountains, each of us started our descent, slowly making our way back down to the valley below. Only this time, you didn't make it back down to the valley, to enjoy the splendid Val Vény and to cherish the joy and thrill of having completed yet another amazing climb. Farewell, we'll miss you.

Mountain Hardwear is launching its second edition of FreetheRide. For the second consecutive year, a mix of Freeride and mountaineering is promoted by this project. Starting September 1st, you can sign up to participate in the FreetheRide event. 25 lucky candidates will be invited to participate in the ski selection day that takes place in La Grave, France. Once the members of the team are chosen, the athletes will head out into the backcountry for a week of fun and adventure, exploring one of the many remote alpine regions in France. Sad news for the ski community...On August 6th, Fredrik Ericsson was killed on K2. His goal was to summit and ski the world's 3 highest peaks without oxygen. From the sources we have, it is at the height of the bottleneck (above 8000m) that he slipped and fell, while setting up a fixed rope. As for the other members of the expedition (Trey Cook in particular) that are still on the mountain, slowly making their way down to base camp, stay safe and take care.
